Monta Takes on Hyrox Manchester
MONTA TAKES ON HYROX MANCHESTER THIS JANUARY
We are thrilled to be supporting our #eatlean colleague, Monta, in the run up to competing in her fourth HYROX competition taking place in Manchester this January.
“HYROX is the worst and the best thing I ever done! It’s unimaginably hard, but the atmosphere on the day is just out of the world!” she says, “I joined fitness classes over 10 years ago and been training since. When I joined back after my pregnancy, a few members had taken part in HYROX, I’d never heard of it before, and it looked hard.”
HYROX is s an indoor hybrid fitness racing event that alternates running with functional exercise, “I’m not a runner at all, but I registered a year before my first race. I’m competitive, especially with myself, so it was something that pushed me to train and not give up. So far, I’ve finished every race with a PB,” explains Monta. To maintain this incredible streak of she will be focusing on her weakness
With a busy schedule training must be effective and flexible for Monta, “My working schedule is 4 on 4 off. I do not train on my working days because I’m starting early and finishing late … Usually, I’m dropping kids off in school and I’m straight to the gym.”
But, fuelling this gruelling training regime requires some extra help, “I eat a LOT, and I love cheese!” laughs Monta, “To help me with eating healthy and right I have personal trainer now, so normal cheese is swapped now with eatlean cheese, and I absolutely love it! Especially Crunchy Cheese Bites which are great when I want to snack on something!”
#eatlean will be joining Monta on her journey from strength to strength through HYROX, cheering from the sidelines on January 25th.

How did you get started with Hyrox?
I joined fitness classes over 10 years ago and been training since, had to take breaks few times due to my working hours and then pregnancy. When I joined back after my pregnancy, few members had taken part in HYROX, I never heard about it before, and it looked hard. I’m not a runner at all, but I registered a year before race. I’m competitive especially with myself, so it was something what pushed me to train and not give up.
What will be your biggest challenge in terms of stations on January 25th?
I have done Birmingham twice and Madrid so far and I know for a fact that Burpee Broadjumps is my biggest challenge as for all the athletes – absolutely dreading the station. Also Wall balls at the end of the race when there’s nothing left is just something else. Also, I’m not a fast runner, so I’m really concentrating on these 3 things before my race in January.
How will you prepare for this event?
As mentioned above I’m focusing on my 3 weaknesses to do better and be faster in Manchester.
What are your favourite meals to fuel your training schedule?
I eat a LOT haha And I love cheese! People always ask if I’m not sick of cheese because I’m working with cheese – I never be sick of it! To help me with eating healthy and right I have personal trainer now, so normal cheese is swapped now with Eat Lean cheese, and I absolutely love it! Especially Crunchy cheese bites which are great when I’m wanting to snack on something!
How do you fit training in around your busy schedule as a Mum?
My working schedule is 4 on 4 off. I do not train on my working days because I’m starting early and finishing late, so all my training is on my days off. Usually, im dropping kids off in school and I’m straight to the gym, it’s harder In school holidays as my partner is working nights, but he is really supportive and proud of what I do, so he stays awake for few extra hours to I can get my training. I had to leave Fitness classes again due to my work schedule and train by myself, but starting with my personal trainer is helping me train more efficiently for my goals.
What do you enjoy about Hyrox, what keeps you coming back for more?
HYROX is the worst and the best thing I ever done! It’s unimaginable hard, but the atmosphere on the day is just out of the world! The feeling when I run over the finish line is just something else! As I mentioned – I’m competitive with myself and I always want to be better than previous race, so far, I finished every race with a PB. Manchester is not far away and I’m planning to race in Barcelona also this year. I cannot wait!
